Bamboo Furniture

Bamboo is one of the most versatile of all resources the Lao collect from the forest. The Lao make almost anything from Bamboo - houses, tools, mats, furniture,  water pipes, toys, smoking pipes. The Lao even eat bamboo shoots.
Now Laos produces fine custom-made bamboo furniture and interior decoration for  international markets.

 

Carpets

Carpet weaving is a craft of Middle Eastern origin which has now been combined with the Lao tradition of silk weaving. These silk carpets, produced by skilled Lao weavers,  are admired for their brilliance and finesse. The silk carpets are made using locally available natural dyes and the highest quality hand-spun silk. Only a limited number of carpets are produced annually making them rare and valuable collectors item.

           
Paper & Iron
Paper making
is a craft with a long ancient history. Traditionally paper has been used for religious and ceremonial purposes. Items like the Buddhist Lenten stars made with "pawsa" paper are now attracting the attention of many visitors to Laos.

Iron work with its origins in blacksmithing is now being promoted for home decoration and home security.
   
   

 

Pottery

The prehistoric craft of pottery is alive and well in Laos. Archaeological sites in Laos reveal that potters worked their craft here at least 2,000 years ago. Lao potters today make flower pots, pots for fermented fish and home made whiskey, items for household decoration, religious icons, crockery for cooking and tiles for flooring and roofing.
